Honorable Mention - Elementary Division
Fort Cobb-Broxton Elementary
Gifted and Talented Class
Ft. Cobb, OK
We are the third, fourth, and fifth grade students from the Gifted and Talented classes at Ft. Cobb-Broxton School. We are proud to be participating in Collage 2006! Oklahoma politics is not a subject that our students seemed to have great knowledge of when we started our project. After discussion and research, we discovered that politics touches our lives in so many ways every day.
The title Donkeys, Elephants and Everything In Between is very appropriate for this year's theme. It is a very broad topic. There are so many areas that could be covered and touched on. Our group had to decide which areas we felt were most important to Oklahoma and to us as individuals. We then tried to show those areas in our collage.
We decided to use red, white, and blue backgrounds for our collage, tying into the political theme. We chose a quilt pattern called Star Crazies to design our collage after. Inside each star, we featured pictures of groups that we felt were very essential and important in our great state. The stars feature the State Department of Education, 100 years of Oklahoma Governors, our Oklahoma Supreme Court justices, our State Representatives, our Ft. Cobb town officials, the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Dept. (which is important to us because Ft. Cobb has a wonderful state park), our State Capitol, our US Senators and Representatives, our Caddo County officials, our State Senators, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Human Services, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, and the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry.
Limiting our collage to these topics seemed to be our most difficult task. There are many more items that we would have liked to include.
The year is 2006 and we are so proud to be called Okiahomans! This collage has taught us so much. Thank you for letting us participate.
