Nation & State

Our group consists of seventh graders from Chattanooga Jr. High. This collage represents the connection between state and federal governments and how the two work together.

On our collage our background is the United States Flag. The flag represents our nation. We ripped strips of red and white cloth to make the stripes. Ripped blue paper makes up the blue square in the upper left hand corner of the flag. We wanted to put the state capitol building and part of the state seal on our collage. We put part of the building on one side and the other half on the other side. We put pictures of our former governors to make up our state capitol in white, red, blue and gray. We decided to mix sand with white paint to make a textured look when we painted it on the state capitol.

We put the seal in the middle of the two pieces because we think it represents holding Oklahoma together. In the star we have donkeys and elephants to go along with our theme, "Oklahoma Politics: Donkeys, Elephants, and Everything in Between.
We have two sayings on our collage. Our first saying we used is "Nation & State." We came up with that because of the different features shown on our collage. There are some things from America, and some things from the state of Oklahoma
We have also put the saying "Oklahoma Politics on it." This saying goes along with our theme. We decided to make our letters in bright yellow so it would bring out the yellow in our state seal. We have painted our border red because it looked good, and it is one of the many patriotic colors displayed in the background.

We have been working on our collage since January. We have come a very long way since then. When we started, we had just a solid board with nothing on it. This has really been a great experience for everyone.

In conclusion, we have enjoyed the privilege of getting to do this project. We would like to thank our teachers and everybody who has helped us reach our goal.
