Oklahoma Politics Collage

We are a group of five original kids between the ages of twelve and thirteen. We all go to Chattanooga Junior High School. Our names are Dakota, Chaz, Trent, Tiffany, and Taylor. We all play sports and love to be active. We are the great team of "DC Triple T."

Our collage is about our state symbols and signs. Our border is red and our background is four different shades of blue representing the background of the Oklahoma flag. We made the state emblem out of the previous governors of the state of Oklahoma. We also used tissue paper to make the leaf look more realistic. The pipe is made of a dowel rod and we used a wood burner to make the designs. The feathers are real with stain at the tips making them brown and the strips at the edges of the emblem are made from leather.

The top half of the buffalo is made of tissue paper rolled around a pencil and glued to make a furry texture. We used pictures of Native Americans and put on a brown cover to make the back half of the buffalo.

The saying "Rich Heritage, Bright Future" on the left hand side of the board is made from pictures of every person in our group. We used pictures of our activities, our group making the collage, and our group just hanging out. We picked this saying because the pictures of the Native Americans in the buffalo represent the rich heritage and the pictures of us represent the bright future of Oklahoma.

"Oklahoma" at the top of the board is made from multiple pictures we found of Oklahoma. We used many pictures of animals and fields of wheat.

Around the edge of the border are three symbols: donkeys, elephants, and "Oklahoma Politics: Donkeys, Elephants, and Everything in Between." The donkeys represent the Democratic Party and the elephants represent the Republican Party. The "Oklahoma Politics: Donkeys, Elephants, and Everything in Between" saying is stating this year's theme for seventh graders.

In conclusion, we are happy that we got the chance to try and win a great contest like this one and we hope that we will have the chance to do this next year. We would like to thank our teachers, Kay Nimmo and Donna Wallace, for letting us work on this project.
