Feathers, Frocks & Politics

IBC bank established an employee advisory board which enables its employees to volunteer throughout our local communities. For the collage project, we teamed up with a group of ladies at a local retirement center in Owasso. Our group consisted of thirteen members ranging in ages from twenty to ninety-one years old. We have worked an accumulative of 125 hours on our collage in which we lovingly titled "Feathers, Frocks & Politics."

When it came to finding clippings of the subject matter, we found it to be in abundance at the centers library which had magazine articles dated back to the 1900's. Throughout the collage you will find everything from current newspaper clippings of Tulsa's highly debated mayoral race to magazine articles of hanging Judge Parker's court room.

The collage board was made to symbolize our states flag with the board itself painted sky blue and a dream-catcher in the center. We created the left-wing democratic side with an outline of the donkey symbol and the right-wing republican side with an outline of an elephant. Both sides have candidates, symbolisms and former campaign slogans incorporated throughout the color portion of each party's symbol. All the black and white clippings indicate highly debated topics discussed not only by politicians but by our own group as well. To represent our "everything in between" segment, the center portion which outlines the dream-catcher has pictures of past and present politicians including the words independents, libertarians and members of the Oklahoma tribal government from several Indian nation tribes.

We have learned throughout the duration of this project is how precious each individual's views are and to respect them whether or not we agree. One thing that both sides do agree on is getting the word out to vote and our ability to do so is what makes our country grand!
