Mention - Elementary Highland East Junior High's Writing Club members have taken a great interest in our state. While working on the Hideaway Pizza Collage Project, we have grown in our pride, appreciation, and knowledge of Oklahoma. When our club started planning for this collage, we knew that we wanted to bring out Oklahoma's history. Our background on our collage is made up of black and white pictures that represent places, lifestyles, and the Indian culture of the past. The Indian Culture is definitely an important part of Oklahoma. We also included pictures of relatives of some of our club members in the "past" section. It will be fun to point to those we are related to when looking at the collage in the future. We wanted to show today's Oklahoma in the counties of our state by using recent color pictures in each county. We thought this would be an interesting way to present Oklahoma's current lifestyles. The club members wanted to display the individual counties of Oklahoma by getting specific pictures for each county off the internet. Many of the pictures are from county websites and represent life in that county. We outlined each county with paint to make them stand out. We then placed a rhinestone on each county representing the county seats. We think the little details add more interest to the project. One of the main focal points of our collage is the heart with the town growing from within it. We think this heart was a creative way to show our love for Oklahoma. We also chose seven counties that pop out from the rest of the counties in Oklahoma for balance and dimension to the project. The stenciled words of our inspiration run around the outside of our collage to frame our entire collage. Our group put a lot of hard work, effort, and mostly love into this project. We enjoyed working on it very much. Our main goal was to show how we think people "live, learn, work, pray, and play" in every town of our great home, Oklahoma. |
