Our Town, Our Community - Why a Quilt?

Life is like a patchwork quilt. Communities are made of diverse people and ideas. Quilters and communities must work together to finish a project. Each quilter contributes her own special talents and gifts -- some bring the fabric, some decide on the pattern, some may bring food or offer a place to quilt. Together they create a useful work of art. This is the way our community works as well -- each brings a piece of the whole.

While stitching a quilt, it's important that all stitch the same agreed pattern, otherwise the quilt would be a mess and will not hold together. The same is true of communities. Individuals must agree to work for the common good to prevent the whole from falling apart.

Just as a quilt is made up of small pieces of varying size, textures and colors, our community is made of the patchwork talents of all of us. Our collage presents a wide range of talents and views of life within the framework of a quilt pieced together by many hands. Our collage is divided into six separate panels showing our community's diverse natural resources as well as our divergent cultures which blend together in a crazy quilt pattern of life.

The beauty of a quilt is reflected in the beauty of our area and in the hardy survivors of our pioneer and native American ancestors. Life reflected in our quilt is a vibrant mix of energetic people working together to make a beautiful, crazy quilt of life in Roger Mills Co.

When properly completed, a quilt gives warmth, tells a story, evokes memories and becomes a work of art to be passed down from generation to generation. We hope our collage captures this spirit of a quilt and will be a source of pride for years to come.
