OUR PAST THROUGH A CHILD'S EYES #70 By participating in the Collage 2001, students at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Tulsa, Oklahoma demonstrated their creativity and talents as they learned about some of their state's rich heritage. After acquiring information from a variety of resources, students, teachers, and parents, joined efforts to prepare this original and inventive interpretation of Oklahoma. As students transformed the many collected images into a beautiful canvas, the rich heritage of our state became as apparent as the pride exhibited by the children who call this state their home. The proud Oklahoma spirit is depicted throughout the collage with representations of the American Indian and of the cowboy, who were the first people of our land. Throughout the collage you will see images of Oklahoma buffalo, flowers, maps, Rose rocks, the Tall Grass Prairie, the Chisolm trail, Little Sahara, the Last Ghost Dance, Fort El Reno, Oklahoma City, sod houses, and tee pees. If you look closely, you may even see the feathers from our school custodian's feather duster!! Students met the challenge of the collage head-on and triumphed through hard work and commitment. Upon completion, the realization of the wonderful history of our state became-the driving force in wanting to expand and enhance the lives of all who don't know about our GREAT Oklahoma. As the students were learning about the beginnings of our state, they committed to bind together, to become ambassadors of Oklahoma in the next millennium. As fellow Oklahomans before us paved the way, students of Patrick Henry have accepted the challenge to preserve the history and the heritage of our past. Oklahoma is far more than OK Š Patrick Henry students can attest to that!!! Patrick Henry
