Oklahoma Through the Eyes of a Buffalo

We began our project by discussing what kind of design shapes we might want to use. We thought about a Sooner wagon, but decided instead on a buffalo. Next, we talked about the contest and what skills would be necessary to produce an entry with a possibility of winning. Then, we looked through magazines filled with pictures of Indians and pioneers, such as Oklahoma Today.

We carefully cut the pictures out and sorted them into groups of Indians and groups of pioneers. Again, we sorted them, but by color. Mrs. Chambers' husband provided us with a board. All of us decided that it would be best to go with a gray background, so that mistakes wouldn't be as noticeable.

Mrs. Chambers drew the buffalo shape onto the board. We taped and placed pictures on the board to see what they would look like on the board once they were glued, and to figure out where the pictures should go. After we decided what looked the best, we glued the pictures on with Modge Podge glue. The mane was made from a foam board.

The reason we used the foam board was because the 3D effect emphasized the design. We also used foam board for the nose. After that, we covered the buffalo with a coat of glue. Then we sealed the entire board with three coats of polyurethane. Finally, we all signed the back of the board to create what we believe is a masterpiece.
